Supertri confirms return to Chicago with 2025 Supertri League race

Short-course triathlon event specialist, Supertri, is building on its event acquisition path and has confirmed the return of its Supertri League to Chicago. The 2025 edition of Chicago Triathlon By Supertri is set to take place on Saturday, August 23.

The race is the first location to be announced for the 2025 Supertri League elite racing calendar and follows Supertri’s acquisition of the long-standing Chicago Triathlon. The acquisition forms part of the event brand’s strategy, focusing on Supertri League elite athlete racing and ‘By Supertri’ mass participation events.

The goal is to expand short-course triathlon racing and increase participation through fast-paced formats and greater accessibility on the mass participation side.

In 2024, more than 15,000 spectators reportedly lined the downtown course in Chicago as international athletes raced through the heart of the city. The Supertri League event reached a global broadcast audience in 144 countries and generated 277 million TV impressions, establishing Chicago as one of the world’s most-watched triathlon races.

The wider Chicago Triathlon By Supertri event welcomed 7,500 participants in 2024 and is aiming to become the world’s largest triathlon. A range of formats – from Kids Triathlon and Supersprint, to Relay options – attracted 24% first-time triathletes, with 95% of participants reportedly stating they would return.

Supertri’s CEO and co-founder Michael D’Hulst said “Chicago truly embraced Supertri last year.

“From the athletes to the fans, to the incredible work done through our charity partners – this city showed us what triathlon can mean to a community. We can’t wait to be back and are looking forward to revealing what the rest of the 2025 Supertri League will look like – it’s going to be exciting within some new and iconic venues on the map.”

As in 2024, the 2025 edition will offer inclusive race options such as the Divvy Bike scheme – allowing participants to use Chicago’s public bike share system to complete the bike leg. The initiative aims to remove a major barrier to entry for newcomers, supporting Supertri’s ambition to broaden participation.

Supertri also confirmed it will continue its charity engagement following the success of last year’s inaugural Corporate Challenge, which raised US$55,000 for Ann & Robert H Lurie Children’s Hospital. In total, the 2024 event generated over US$425,000 for community partners.

The remainder of the 2025 Supertri League schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.
