ASSOS celebrates 50 years with A50 Anniversary Drop

Cycling apparel manufacturer ASSOS of Switzerland has unveiled a limited-edition collection to mark its golden jubilee. The A50 Anniversary Drop serves as a tribute to the brand’s half-century of performance apparel engineering, which began in 1976 when founder Toni Maier introduced advanced fabrics to a sport then defined by steel, leather, and wool.

Based in Stabio, Switzerland, the company has built the new collection on its EQUIPE R racing platform. The range features custom graphics under a design ethos titled ‘Techno-Anarchy’, which according to the company, merges Swiss precision with a raw, avant-garde aesthetic. The launch commemorates 50 years of ‘Swiss Speed Engineering’ with the guiding insight: ‘Fifty years of fast. Fifty years of first. Fifty years forward.’

The core design of the anniversary jersey draws direct inspiration from Daniel Gisiger, the former Swiss professional road and track cyclist who became a technical coach. The apparel integrates historical visual cues referencing classic team heritages, such as Cilo and Lejeune. These vintage reference points are combined with modern graphic panels featuring raw typography, including phrases such as ‘Spinning maps in headlights’ and ‘Beyond the rise, into the wind’.

The EQUIPE/DYORA R S11 A50 collection is engineered for competitive racing and high-speed riding in ambient temperatures between 15°C and 30°C. The main body of the jersey utilizes circular-knit Aircell fabric, which weighs 110g/m2. This is the brand’s lightest main jersey textile outside of its RSR or Houdini series, offering four-way asymmetrical stretch and quick-drying characteristics.

The rear panels employ a fine gauge Push Pull fabric (180g/m2) designed to provide structural shape. This allows riders to carry heavier items in their pockets whilst maintaining stabilisation. The entire jersey weighs 133g in a size M and features bonded technology with a racing fit that secures the sleeves just above the elbow. Storage is managed via specialised Triple Ramp Pockets, which include flexible internal fabric panels that act as lids to secure contents during high-cadence efforts.

The matching bib shorts are constructed from Type.911 fabric, an ultra-fine 40-gauge warp knit that is highly compressive and abrasion-resistant. The shorts integrate patented X-Frame technology and an EQUIPE R S11 insert with a Mono shock-absorb damping system. A seamless raw-cut Skin Grip Finish is used to anchor the legs in place without applying excessive pressure.

The ASSOS A50 Anniversary Drop is available internationally this month through selected retail partners and official brand channels. The EQUIPE/DYORA R Jersey S11 A50 is priced at £140, US210 or €160. The matching EQUIPE/DYORAR BibShorts S11A50 retail for £185, US260 or €220.

Founded 50 years ago, ASSOS continues to focus on technical innovation, designing and testing its products in Switzerland to meet the demands of professional and enthusiast cyclists.
