British Cycling has announced that Chief Executive Jon Dutton will depart the organisation in July 2026. He is set to take up the role of CEO at the British Olympic Association (BOA).

Jon Dutton was appointed CEO to the British national governing body for cycling in April 2023. During his time with the organisation, he oversaw a period of transition that included the launch of a new strategy in 2024 and the securing of Lloyds as a lead commercial partner.

Under his leadership, British Cycling also brought the men’s and women’s Lloyds Tours of Britain back in-house. He also played a key role in the successful bid to host the Tour de France and Tour de France Femmes Grand Départs in 2027.

Frank Slevin, Chair of British Cycling said “During his tenure at British Cycling, Jon has delivered a significant programme of change – including the publication of our bold new strategy in 2024, securing a new lead commercial partner in Lloyds and continuing our programme of modernisation.

“The organisation is now better equipped to serve its members, support elite performance, and grow participation at every level across the country than at any point in recent memory.”

Slevin added that the implementation of a social impact programme, designed to tackle inequalities, would form a core part of the outgoing Chief Executive’s legacy.

Jon Dutton said “It has been a tremendous honour to lead British Cycling through such an important and ambitious period of change. I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved together – strengthening our organisation, delivering meaningful impact in communities, and laying foundations that will support the sport for many years to come.

“I am sincerely grateful to the outstanding colleagues across British Cycling for their daily inspiration, and particularly to Chair Frank Slevin for his leadership and support. The decision to move on was made with careful consideration, but the opportunity to lead Team GB presents an exciting new challenge.”

British Cycling recently implemented new structures, such as British Cycling Ventures and the British Cycling Foundation, to support its long-term ambitions. The governing body represents a community of 2,000 affiliated clubs and approximately 27 million people who cycle nationwide.

The search for a new Chief Executive will begin shortly, with the organisation stating that its experienced leadership team remains in place to continue its current trajectory.
