RunSignup, the US-based registration and technology provider for endurance events and non-profits, has released its list of the top 100 largest road running races in the United States for the 2025 season.
The 2025 report ranks events based on publicly available finisher counts for each race weekend to evaluate participation trends across the US industry.
The latest report can be found online, alongside previous RunSignup top 100 reports for 2024, 2023 and earlier years.
According to the company, larger races have experienced a slower recovery following the pandemic, but data from the 2025 season suggests runners are returning to major events.
More than 50% of the races on the list exceeded their 2019 participation levels, showing an average per-race increase of +5.2% between 2019 and 2025. Over the last year, the average race on the top 100 list grew by 6.5%.
Findings from the report include:
- The five largest races in 2025 were the TCS New York City Marathon & Abbot Dash to the Finish 5K, Bank of America Chicago Marathon & Abbot Chicago 5K, BOLDERBoulder, AJC Peachtree Road Race, and Boston Marathon + BAA 5K. All five exceeded 40,000 finishers.
- Three registration platforms hosted 54% of the events on the 2025 list, with 21 on RunSignup, 17 on Race Roster, and 16 on Haku. A further 13 races utilised in-house or custom event registration solutions.
- There were 11 races new to the list in 2025. This included two new races added to an existing series and eight events that grew between 12% and 36% to surpass previously higher-ranked races.
- Of the 11 races that dropped off the list, one was permanently discontinued, while others were outpaced by faster-growing events or experienced a decline in participants over the last year.
- The five largest single events consisted of two marathons, two 10km races, and a 10 mile event. These were the TCS New York City Marathon, Bank of America Chicago Marathon, Bolder Boulder 10km, ACJ Peachtree Road Race 10km, and the Broad Street 10 mile.
RunSignup, which is an employee-owned entity, provides a platform that is reportedly used by more than 39,000 events to manage registration and fundraising. It compiles the top 100 report manually to improve industry understanding of highly attended events in the absence of a single central aggregator for US road race data.
Bob Bickel, Founder and CEO at RunSignup, said “The 2025 Top 100 report confirms that the largest events in the country have not only recovered but are finding new avenues for growth.
“It is encouraging to see more than half of these premier events surpassing their pre-pandemic levels, proving the enduring appeal of the big-race experience.”
