Event organiser Supertri has announced that two of its North American short-course triathlon events have sold out ahead of schedule, with a third on the verge of reaching capacity. Supertri adds that its flagship Chicago event is on track to host a record field of 9,500 athletes this August.
Both Supertri New Jersey and Supertri Long Beach, both scheduled for July 19, 2026, have reportedly reached capacity. Meanwhile, Supertri Toronto, taking place on July 26, 2026, is nearing a sellout, marking a successful summer period for the brand’s premium, urban triathlon festivals.
The sellouts represent notable year-on-year growth across the company’s event portfolio:
- Supertri Long Beach: The event has sold out with an athlete field that is 30% larger than in 2025. The race features a breakwater-sheltered ocean swim and a flat, fast coastal run-and-bike course in southern California.
- Supertri Toronto: Now in its 14th year, the Canadian event is close to a sellout after reporting 35% year-on-year growth. Several wave starts are already at capacity for the course, which takes competitors through closed downtown streets beneath the CN Tower and along the Gardiner Expressway.
- Supertri New Jersey: Held at Mercer County Park, the race has sold out its available course capacity in its first year operating under the Supertri banner.
- Supertri Chicago: Scheduled for August 22–23, 2026, the United States’ largest triathlon is on track to host 9,500 participants, which is an increase of 1,000 athletes compared to 2025. The event utilises a Lake Michigan swim and a closed-road bike segment along the city’s lakefront.
The participation growth aligns with the Supertri brand’s broader initiative to attract newcomers to the sport of triathlon. In 2025, first-time triathletes made up 41% of all Supertri participants. For the 2026 season, the company has established a target of welcoming 30,000 total athletes across its events, including 10,000 first-timers, supported by its dedicated First Timer Program and short-distance race formats.
Michael D’hulst, CEO and Co-Founder of Supertri, said “These sellouts are not just numbers. They represent thousands of people, from first-timers to seasoned racers, challenging themselves and choosing Supertri as their race organiser. Chicago is the clearest signal yet of where this sport is heading, and we believe it will become the biggest triathlon in the world in the coming years.”
While the New Jersey and Long Beach events are fully booked, final registration slots remain open for Supertri Toronto. Athletes can also still register for the upcoming events in Chicago, Kerrville (September 26–27, 2026), and Toulouse (October 4, 2026).
