Tymewear wearable tech adds real-time respiratory tracking to Wahoo ELEMNT bike computers

Tymewear integrates its wearable tech with Wahoo ELEMNT bike computers

Performance technology brand Tymewear has provided details about its new integration with Wahoo’s ELEMNT bike computers. This offers real-time respiratory tracking directly to cyclists’ handlebars.

The update allows riders using the Tymewear VitalPro chest strap to view breathing insights, ventilatory threshold data, and training guidance live on their Wahoo device while riding.

The integration utilizes Tymewear’s respiratory performance technology, which is used by endurance athletes and coaches, including the professional cycling outfit Team Visma | Lease a Bike.

The VitalPro chest strap measures breathing with up to 97% claimed accuracy compared to laboratory testing. It identifies an athlete’s ventilatory thresholds (VT1 and VT2) without the need for traditional laboratory assessments.

Through a native firmware update, data is transmitted directly to Wahoo head units. This enables riders to see when they cross key ventilatory thresholds, moving away from standard heart-rate or power zones in favour of training against individual physiology.

Arnar Larusson, CEO and Founder of Tymewear, said “With the Tymewear VitalPro on the Wahoo head unit, cyclists can see exactly when they cross their ventilatory thresholds, live on the ride. Breathing is a source of truth riders around the world are using to train based on their unique physiology, and we’re excited to put it in the hands of Wahoo’s community.”

The integration provides an alternative to conventional training metrics. According to research published in Sports Medicine, comparing threshold-based training with traditional peak-effort methods, personalized ventilatory training improves performance outcomes across all tested athletes, delivering up to double the fitness gains.

Gareth Joyce, CEO of Wahoo, said “At Wahoo, we’re constantly focused on delivering meaningful innovation that enhances the riding experience for every athlete. Partnering with these innovative sensor brands reflects our commitment to listen to our customers and continuously evolve the ELEMNT ecosystem through meaningful software updates. By bringing next-generation performance metrics directly to riders’ screens, we’re giving Wahooligans even more ways to train smarter and ride further.”

The software update is available immediately to all existing and future Wahoo ELEMNT V3 bike computer users.

Tymewear specializes in breathing-based training wearables, offering a performance dashboard that tracks metrics such as breathing rate and ventilation. Based in Atlanta, GA, Wahoo Fitness produces a connected ecosystem of indoor and outdoor training hardware and software for cycling, running, and triathlon.

The Tymewear VitalPro is priced at £299.99 / US$299 / €299 for the stand alone device. Packages including a one-year Pro Training subscription are available for £399 / US$399 / €399, while a two-year bundle is priced at £449.99 / US$449 / €449.
