The start and finish locations for the 2027 Tour de France and Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift have been unveiled, with ten host locations illuminated in a nationwide ‘Tour de Skies’ event across the UK.
The announcement marks a significant milestone for the 2027 season, with the UK set to host both the men’s and women’s Grand Départs. The rolling out of the world’s biggest cycling event in the UK, organised by Amaury Sport Organisation (A.S.O.) in partnership with British Cycling and UK Sport, is expected to be the largest free sporting spectacle in British history.
The men’s Tour de France will begin in Edinburgh on Friday July 2, 2027. The opening stage will head to Carlisle, before the race visits Keswick, Liverpool, and Welshpool, concluding the UK leg in Cardiff.
The Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift will commence in Leeds on Friday July 30, 2027. The route travels west over the Pennines to Manchester, before a second stage through the Peak District National Park to Sheffield. The UK leg will conclude with a showpiece stage in London on August 1, 2027.
Christian Prudhomme, Director of the Tour de France at Amaury Sport Organisation, said “The UK has always welcomed the Tour with passion and pride, and the route details we are revealing reflect the beauty and diversity of Britain’s terrain. Bringing both Grand Départs here is a testament to the strength of our partnership with British Cycling and the enthusiasm of the UK.”
As part of the delivery, British Cycling confirmed that 7,000 volunteers will be recruited to support the event. The UK Grand Départ event organisers also launched ‘Joy’, a social impact programme designed to tackle inactivity and improve mental wellbeing.
Professional cyclist Lizzie Deignan said “To know that both the men’s and women’s races will start here in 2027, and especially that the women will come to my home roads of Yorkshire, is truly special. This is a huge moment for the sport and an opportunity that will inspire countless women and girls to get on their bikes.”
The men’s route features landmarks such as the Lake District and the climbs of South Wales, including the Côte de Rhigos and Côte de Caerffili. The women’s race will tackle Snake Pass in the Peak District before the finale in the capital.
Jon Dutton, Chief Executive at British Cycling, said “The Grand Départs in 2027 are about so much more than six unforgettable stages of racing – it’s about unlocking lasting change for communities right across Britain.”

Paul Bush, Managing Director at Grand Départ GB 2027, said “The UK has hosted unforgettable Grand Départs before, but 2027 will be bigger than anything we’ve seen – with both the men’s and women’s pelotons starting here together for the historic very first time.”
Detailed timings and specific London route information are expected to be released later in the 2026 season or early 2027.
