Martin Boddie from Tri Dynamic has been in contact with his report from last week’s sold out tri camp in sunny Andalucía, Spain, with coaching legend Joe Friel and TrainingBible UK Director Rob Griffiths. Tri Dynamic is the only company in Europe Joe Friel works with on his training camps. Martin notes that, as usual, the camp was a very international affair with over 11 countries being represented with athletes racing from Sprint right through to Ironman distances…
All signed up to come and spend a week in the sun learning from Joe Friel, author of The Triathlete’s Training Bible, Going Long and Your Best Triathlon. The camp atmosphere was great with everyone making new friends and by the end of the week reunions and group trips to different races were already being planned.
The resort selected for the tri camp featured luxurious 4* self-contained villas and townhouses each with their own living areas, dining kitchens, roof terraces, BBQ areas and even swimming pools, so were fantastic for relaxing in after a hard day’s training! The roads in Andalucía were very quiet and traffic free making for some beautiful bike riding and trail runs.
With up to 32 hours of training available during the week the camp participants benefitted from coaching from Joe Friel and Rob Griffiths in all three sports as well as swim video analysis and run skills clinics plus evening classroom sessions with Joe Friel covering key topics including pacing for long distance triathlon, race day nutrition and the psychology of training and racing triathlons.
Special mention should also be made of UK based Icelandic triathlon star and Coach Karen Axelsdottir who unfortunately came off her bike. Her positive mental attitude was a true inspiration to all her fellow athletes and we all wish her the very best for a full and speedy recovery. She will no doubt be back stronger and fitter than ever.
There was a wide range of abilities from people interested in improving their Sprint or Olympic distance races to several Team GB Age Group triathletes preparing for the European Championships in Eilat next month as well as several 70.3 and Ironman competitors. By the end of the week everyone had made significant improvements across all disciplines for example many athletes knocked off 2-3 minutes from their 1K swim TT!
Rob Griffiths and Joe Friel led a transition skills master class following which the athletes had the unique opportunity to put those new skills into practice in the mini tri race simulation at Kinetic PB complete with transition racks, ITU style blue carpeting, inflatable finish gantry and the all-important race photographer! On the last night one of the luxurious villas, complete with its own pool and spectacular views to the mountains, was the venue for the wrap up party and everyone enjoyed winding down and relaxing after a great week.
The next Tri Dynamic camp with Joe Friel runs from 12-19 May and is in the Italian coastal town of Riccione, former training ground of Marco Pantani, and includes the option of riding in the Nove Colli at the end of the week.
