Applications for Tri NZ Board member now open

Triathlon New Zealand (Tri NZ) is inviting an individual to consider making a contribution to the sport through appointment to the Board of the national governing body. The Tri NZ Constitution makes provision for the appointment in 2012 of one director in addition to those directors elected by the membership.

Tri NZ is looking for a man or woman with a passion for triathlon and a skill set to complement those already helping govern and lead triathlon as it continues to grow in popularity across New Zealand.

The new Tri NZ Board member may be a competitor, a coach, an official, a parent or simply a fan of the sport. Male or female, young or ‘less young’ (Tri NZ notes you are never ‘old’ in triathlon!), from Bluff to Cape Reinga the sport needs the input of passionate people to lead it into the next phase of development and growth, and to face and overcome any challenges the sport might face.

Board members are called upon for regular meetings to discuss and monitor the governance of the sport and the performance of the team at Tri NZ. Approximately 5-6 of these meetings will be full day meetings (midweek) and 6-8 via teleconference. Travel and accommodation is funded where required.

This appointment, made by a Board Appointments Panel, responds to a determination to have available a range of skills and experience required for effective governance of the organisation.

A person is sought who will bring all or some of the following:

  • The ability to think strategically, i.e. able to see the ‘big picture’ and to drive the organisation towards achievement of a challenging vision
  • Management or board level experience in a successful company or organisation undergoing rapid growth
  • A commercial perspective, i.e. strong macro financial experience and general business skills
  • Governance experience

The prospective Tri NZ Board director does not need to be an existing Triathlon New Zealand member.

Individuals are invited to complete an application form and email this, along with a CV, to lisa.greenaway[at]triathlon.org.nz before the close of business on 31 July 2012.
