The starting shot for the third edition of the TriStar triathlon in the Balearic Islands will be on 7 April 2013, in Portocolom, Mallorca. Last year there were 600 starters in the event on the Spanish island, with half of the triathletes coming from outside of Spain and using the trip to the sun for an early season warm up!
As noted by TriStar brand owner, Star Events, next year, in anticipation of ‘great demand, the number of participants in 2013 will be limited to 1,000.’
TriStar Mallorca 2013 takes place in the south east of the island with the tried-and-tested TriStar formats 111 and 55.5. Following the 600 participants in spring 2012, the organizers figure on a huge demand for starting places next year.
Fast forward into summer
After two successful editions of TriStar Mallorca, the event will again take place under the motto ‘Fast Forward into Summer’. Portocolom will host the core of the race. Club Nautic in the idyllic coastal town is far away from the tourist hubbub, and will be home to the TriStar 111 and TriStar 55.5, as well as the StarKids duathlon for children.
According to Star Events 55% of the event’s starters in spring 2012 travelled to Mallorca solely for the TriStar and enjoyed their first competition of the year under the Spanish sun. 75% of the 600 participants reportedly stated that they were satisfied with the event’s organisation, and 47% gave TriStar Mallorca 2012 ‘the highest grade’.
The individual courses of TriStar 111 and TriStar 55.5 are unchanged from those used in 2012. Those participating in the TriStar 111 will face two laps in each discipline. The swim will take place in the harbour of Portocolom, with the cycling course finding its highpoint with the climb up to the 494m high Sant Salvador, well known in the local cycling and triathlon community. The closing run goes from Portocolom old town along the bay and back to the finish line of TriStar Mallorca.
The TriStar label is presented by Star Events, the Monaco based company specializing in organizing high quality sports events that are focused on ‘fun, social responsibility and environmental protection’. The TriStar series has grown to 27 races in 13 international destinations in less than three years: Nevis (St Kitts and Nevis), Mallorca and Madrid (Spain), Lyon, Deauville and Cannes (France), Worms-Germany (Germany), Salzkammergut and Kufstein (Austria), Milton Keynes (United Kingdom), Estonia-Otepää (Estonia), Monaco (Monaco) and Rio de Janeiro (Brazil).
TriStar has introduced new distances to the sport of triathlon (i.e 111K and 222K), is officially recognized by the International Triathlon Union (ITU), and is rolling out a new Team Racing Concept – T5.
