Map My Tracks reaches 500,000 users milestone

Map My Tracks, the outdoor social network for sports enthusiasts, gained its 500,000th user last weekend – after a year that has seen its international user base almost double. With over 1,500 routes being tracked each day and 500,000 users, the Map My Tracks platform, across apps and website, provides a busy activity network for its growing base of fitness enthusiasts.

First launched in 2007, Map My Tracks has, for over five years, pioneered the use of mobile phones to record and stream live performance telemetry for sports such as cycling and running. During this time, the company has partnered with an impressive portfolio of clients including Team Sky and the Tour of Britain.

Used by runners, walkers, cyclists, sailors and a variety of other sportsmen and women in over 180 countries, the app turns a smartphone into a GPS tracking tool providing live performance telemetry. The mapmytracks.com platform also allows users to import their activities from other devices and compare their performance.

Map My Tracks now holds 4.6 billion different data points from routes around the world, with activities being added each daily by cyclists, runners, walkers and active people from a variety of different sports.

The 500,000th user to register with Map My Tracks was the lucky winner of a Nexus 4 mobile phone. With such a substantial user base grown over a relatively short period of time, Map My Tracks’ founder, Nick Tatt, spoke of the company’s excitement of reaching such a landmark figure…

“To the 500,000 people that have taken the time to use Map My Tracks we thank you half a million times, said Tatt. “Your passion has driven our passion and has helped to make Map My Tracks the service it is today.”

He continued: “You’ve biked, run, walked, sailed and skied hundreds of thousands of miles and burned just as many calories along the way. It’s quite incredible just how active you all are.”

This latest news tops off a great 12 months for Map My Tracks that saw the brand launch training plans, an ad network, the Map My Tracks Event Tracker 2.0 and Map My Tracks PLUS accounts.
