The world’s largest long distance triathlon, DATEV Challenge Roth on 14 July, is now the venue for the official Deutsche Triathlon Union (DTU) long distance championships. Following an agreement between the Challenge Family and the German Triathlon Union, the iconic Roth event will run the German championships until at least 2017.
The President of Deutsche Triathlon Union, Dr Martin Engelhardt, said “The German Triathlon Union is pleased that as part of the DATEV Challenge Roth in the coming years, we will be holding the German Championships in long distance triathlon. In Roth, a major triathlon event has been created over the last 25 years, which is one of the absolute highlights in Germany with few events that can match it worldwide.”
Engelhardt continued “As the national governing body in Germany we are happy and confident to work together with Challenge and the team of [Challenge Family CEO], Felix Walchshöfer, at Challenge Roth. Together, we can certainly put additional momentum upon our fascinating sport of triathlon. Overall, it is our intention to host the organisation of national championships with the highest possible quality, so the decision for Roth was almost inevitable.”
In 2012, the Challenge Family global series of long distance triathlons formed a partnership with the European Triathlon Union (ETU) that saw Challenge Kraichgau and Challenge Roth in Germany host the ETU Long Distance Triathlon Continental Championships in 2012. Going forwards, DATEV Challenge Roth will be further enhanced as a key race in Germany, as the official Deutsche Triathlon Union (DTU) long distance championships.
DATEV eG, one of Europe’s largest software and IT companies, is on board as the new the title sponsor for Challenge Roth. The sponsorship deal runs through to the end of 2013 with a further option to extend thereafter.
TEAMCHALLENGE GmbH is the organizer of Challenge Roth. With an estimated 150,000 spectators expected along the race course, and more than 5,000 participants from more than 60 nations around the world, DATEV Challenge Roth will take place for the first time under the new name on 14 July 2013. The competition in Roth is also the parent event of the ever growing Challenge Family, which currently includes a total of 21 triathlon competitions on four continents.
Challenge Roth in Germany, the flagship event of international race organiser the Challenge Family, sold out in record time for 2013. When entries for the 12th Challenge Roth, held on 14 July 2013, went on sale on 16 July 2012 at 10.00 CET, the demand for tickets was considerable. 650 relay team slots sold out in 29 minutes, 1,500 international slots sold out in 75 minutes and the slots for German nationals sold out in 53 minutes. So, once again, the race was fully booked within a single day.
