Online coaching and training data specialist TrainingPeaks has confirmed that it is the power analysis provider for the 2013 CyclingNews Tour Tracker mobile app for iPhone, iPad and Android.
The free CyclingNews Tour Tracker app provides daily live, preview and post-race coverage of the 100th Tour de France from CyclingNews journalists. The app also provides GPS tracking of each stage, with details of breakaways and time gaps, and a social media feed with photos, videos and tweets.
The free CyclingNews Tour Tracker app itself is the result of a collaboration between CyclingNews, a leading online source of professional cycling coverage, and Tour Tracker, the award-winning multi-platform professional cycling app. In a three-year partnership, the app will cover the three biggest events in the sport of cycling – The Grand Tours.
Through a combination of commentary, GPS tracking, race photography and other live cycling data, the CyclingNews Tour Tracker mobile app brings fans access to all the action driving the Giro d’Italia, Tour de France and Vuelta d’España.
The addition of TrainingPeaks power analysis gives Tour de France fans access to power data from some of the best riders in the peloton, as they are tracking the events of each stage on the go. Featured riders include Jani Brajkovic (Astana) who is riding with an SRM power meter, Greg Henderson (Lotto-Belisol) also on SRM, and Juan Antonio Flecha (Vacansoleil-DCM) who will be sharing his CycleOps PowerTap data.
Contingent upon the riders’ ability to upload their power data after each stage, TrainingPeaks will provide a daily analysis of a selected power file, along with a link to the rider’s interactive TrainingPeaks activity viewer, which is also compatible with iPhone and Android.
TrainingPeaks co-founder Dirk Friel said, “We’ve got a great mix of riders that we are featuring on the Tour Tracker each day, and we’ll pull out the differences in their power data that can help educate cycling fans about the various roles that a rider can play. Henderson is a lead-out rider so look for some big power numbers from him as he helps to get his team leader Andre Greipel to the line for the sprint win.
“Brajkovic is a GC contender after having finished 9th in 2012, but he may have to work for his teammate Jakob Fuglsang. If so, this may free him up for a stage victory in the mountains. That should make for some exciting data. Finally, Flecha is a domestique but also an aggressive racer, so through his data we can see what it takes not only to work for a teammate, but also to make the breakaway and go for stage victories. We’ll be able to show ‘a little bit of everything’ with this year’s power data.”
To accompany the limited analysis available on the app, TrainingPeaks is also providing power data from Flecha, Henderson and Brajkovic to CyclingNews for deeper analysis articles by Stephen Gallagher and Dan Fleeman of Dig Deep Coaching.
Finally, in addition to providing power analysis for the Tour Tracker and CyclingNews, TrainingPeaks will be publishing the daily analyses on its own site at TrainingPeaks.com/TDF, as well as selecting certain stages to do full analyses including graphics. The full analyses may also feature riders from Team Sky, ORICA-GreenEDGE, and Euskaltel-Euskadi.
