Forhans Cup stretches the Olympic tri distance at Lago del Salto

The expanding Forhans Cup in Italy is continuing to build momentum with the Lago del Salto (Lake Salto) Triathlon on 27 July. The new event stretches the regular Olympic distance triathlon format with 1800m of swimming, 60K cycling and a 14K run.

“The race will be an ideal opportunity for competitors to try their hand at distances greater than Olympic; for all those who aspire to complete a middle distance triathlon and maybe still do not feel ready,” said Gianluca Calfapietra, President of the organizing company Forhans Team.

As per federal regulations, the extended Olympic triathlon format at Lago del Salto will be non-drafting.

“We have designed a challenging route,” continued Calfapietra, “just to allow everyone to test themselves over greater distances. The bike test will take place on a circuit of 30K that will be repeated twice; it is a technical circuit, but not hard. The athletes will face one climb per lap, less than 2K long. The rest of the route is slightly undulating in the first part and flat in the second half.”

To ensure maximum safety for all athletes, the event organiser Forhans Team has also been able to close the entire bike route to traffic.

During the run, which is for the most part shaded, the latter part of the run course is also slightly undulating, but not too extreme. “It will be a race for everyone,” said Calfapietra, “even though the distance, in the end, will be felt!”
