Going long, Castle Triathlon Series confirms date for The Bastion

The Castle Triathlon Series has confirmed that its new long distance triathlon, The Bastion at Hever Castle, will take place on Sunday 13 July 2014 with registration now open. This is the first time the series has held a race at Hever Castle separate from the main September flagship event – the Hever Castle Triathlon.

According to the organisers, a mid-summer date for The Bastion ‘recognises the increasing demand from competitors to race at the venue and the trend towards long distance races.’ The event will be teamed up with a swim festival, with unique opportunities for children and adults to swim a range of distances including the stunning loop through Hever Castle lake and the River Eden.

Full course maps of the new 140.6 mile course are still to be published. The Castle Tri team notes that The Bastion has been designed to offer the ultimate challenge for long distance triathletes, whilst taking in the picturesque countryside around the High Weald of Kent and Ashdown Forest. The course will loop sections of the existing middle distance Gauntlet route at Hever, which is deemed as ‘tough but stunning’ by many competitors, together with new course features.

During the middle ages, the Bastion was the final stronghold of a fortification and represented the greatest challenge for anyone wishing to defeat it. Drawing on that analogy, the Hever Bastion is being positioned as ‘the ultimate test for long course triathletes in the UK.’

Registration is now open for competitors wishing to take on The Bastion; and until 1 December competitors can enjoy the early bird discount of 30% off the £320 plus VAT race entry. All competitors will need to attend an obligatory race briefing on Saturday 12 July 2014.
