Regional governing body Triathlon Western Australia (Triathlon WA), is excited to announce a new partnership with Telstra, which will include supporting young triathletes at Western Australia’s school participation program through to the iconic SunSmart Busselton Festival of Triathlon.
Telstra is Australia’s leading provider of mobile phones, mobile devices, home phones and broadband internet. Executive Director of Triathlon WA Hayley Lethlean said teaming up with Telstra was a dynamic opportunity for the sport of triathlon in WA.
“Given the importance of digital technology in our ever changing world, this partnership with a creative corporate partner, such as Telstra, will enable our sport to support further programs and pathways in triathlon participation,” she said.
In 2014, Telstra will join Triathlon WA as a community partner of the Triathlon School Program in the south west of WA, enabling the sport to deliver triathlon programs into local schools. The schools program focuses on healthy, fun and safe participation opportunities for kids to prepare them for their future in the sport of triathlon.
In addition to the schools program, Telstra will collaborate as the naming rights partner of the teams event at the SunSmart Ironman 70.3 Busselton on 3 May 2014. Teams consisting of two of three members will tackle the same distance as the individuals (1.9K swim, 90.1K cycle and a 21.1K).
The SunSmart Busselton Festival of Triathlon, owned and managed by Triathlon WA, comprises a series of three-day events culminating in the Ironman 70.3 Triathlon on Saturday 3 May 2014. This event itself has 3500 participants signed up to compete in 2014.
The event brings more than 17,000 spectators to the seaside town of Busselton for a weekend of exciting racing and community engagement. It is the largest event of its type in the Southern Hemisphere.
Ashleigh Davis, Event Manager Triathlon WA said “This is a fantastic opportunity for Telstra to engage with the community and be a part of this amazing event. The Telstra values of ‘Care, Together, Trust and Courage’ are all values which resonate with the values and outcomes of the SunSmart Busselton Festival of Triathlon.”
Telstra Area General Manager Boyd Brown said Telstra was thrilled to join forces with Triathlon WA. “Telstra is committed to supporting community based programs that help people better connect as well as making a powerful contribution to enriching people’s lives,” he said.
“Triathlon WA does an amazing job in this regard, bringing people together of all ages to take part in a thrilling community event. We couldn’t be happier in playing a role in supporting this important program which makes such a big difference for so many people living in the South West.”
