General entries for the new City of Cambridge Triathlon are now open and filling fast. The event, which is set for 28 September 2014, has already attracted a headline sponsor, Cambridge Property Lettings as well several supporting sponsors and almost 1000 entries from pre-registered athletes.
Pledging its support for the event, in the world famous UK university city this September, headline sponsor Cambridge Property Lettings is committed to be on board for the next three years.
The new event will see athletes swim 1500m in the River Cam, ride a one-lap 38K bike course on closed and traffic managed roads and then complete the event with a 10K city centre run around the world-famous city centre.
Local triathlete and Erdinger Alkoholfrei team member, Tom Vickery, said “I think the particular highlights will be the swim and the run. The river swim is quite unusual for a triathlon in itself, and the run really hits at the heart of Cambridge, right in the city centre.”
GB Paratriathetle, Clare Cunningham added “The bike course looks fantastic; it’s on roads that I train on regularly – really quiet, beautiful country roads.”
There are plans to include a kids race as well, making this an end of season highlight for UK triathletes and their families to aim for. A high percentage of entrants so far are novices, demonstrating the continuing growth in popularity of triathlon. Meanwhile, over a quarter of athletes who have signed-up already are new to the sport.
Cancer Research UK is the official charity partner of the City of Cambridge Triathlon, continuing the successful partnership with event organiser One Step Beyond, which is now into its third year and has seen hundreds of thousands of pounds raised for ground breaking research.
