Pro triathlete Karl Alexander has taken a break from his intensive winter training block to speak with the children at Lewknor Primary School, Oxfordshire, UK, exhorting the benefits of health, fitness and the sport of triathlon to the next generation of little triathletes.
Alexander, who is sponsored and supported by XTERRA Wetsuits UK & Ireland in 2014, was invited by the school ahead of a week themed on the nationwide Sport Relief charity drive, with the children aged 6-10 getting ready to take on their own series of personal challenges.
Karl Alexander spent time at Lewknor Primary School talking about his career in sport and demonstrating the equipment that he uses to compete. This includes the new XTERRA Vendetta wetsuit, which Alexander feels confident will power him towards the front of his races this year. Scheduled races will include the British Middle Distance Championships, the Outlaw Triathlon and Challenge Weymouth.
Karl Alexander said “It was a really special opportunity to be invited to Lewknor Primary School and get to introduce triathlon to a new generation. The children took part in a sponsored mile run to raise money for Sport Relief, as part of this I was invited to come and talk to the children about triathlon and specifically training for triathlon.”
He continued, “I took with me various pieces of my kit and gave a talk to two groups over the course of the morning. They asked lots of great questions and seemed really interested in the sport and afterwards we arranged a few ‘races’ on the playground.”
Having done his bit to inspire the next generation of athletes, Karl Alexander will now return to training for his early season races at The Slateman and Belvoir Castle Triathlons before he starts to peak towards the aforementioned British Championship race in Aberfeldy and long-distance races in Nottingham and Weymouth.
With recent personal bests posted in 10km and half marathon races, solid times posted over 100 mile time trials, a planned open water training camp in Mallorca and the support of his new XTERRA Wetsuit sponsors on board, 2014 looks set to be a big year for the pro who hails from High-Wycombe, Buckinghamshire.
