The Ironman Foundation Community Fund will give US$100,000 in grant funding to initiatives and groups in The Woodlands community as part of the 2014 Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas triathlon presented by Waste Management, which took place on Saturday 16 May 2014.
The Ironman Foundation’s contribution will provide support to non-profit needs and initiatives within the local community. With the 2014 donations from the Ironman Foundation, a total of US$400,000.00 has been given to support the needs of the community since the first Ironman Texas event in 2011.
The Ironman Foundation will donate US$50,000 to the Woodlands community to support local non-profit beneficiaries that will use the funds toward local initiatives to better the area. The recipients of these funds are: The Boy Scouts of America (Montgomery County), Angel Reach, Montgomery County Youth Services, Interfaith at the Woodlands, and Education for Tomorrow Alliance.
In addition to donating funds to these community organizations, The Ironman Foundation will provide the additional US$50,000 in grant donations to local non-profit groups who have a volunteerism component to their organizations.
The Ironman Foundation also provides registered athletes with the platform to fundraise for the Foundation or a non-profit beneficiary of their choice as they train for their Ironman event. More than 20 athletes have signed up to participate in The Ironman Foundation’s ‘Your Journey, Your Cause’ fundraising program at Ironman Texas.
Through their participation with the Foundation these athletes ‘have been touched by something greater than themselves and are giving back to non-profit organizations to make their race experiences more than just crossing the finish line – they are racing for a cause.’ Collectively they have raised nearly US$150,000 for their respective causes.
Since its inception in 2003, The Ironman Foundation has made philanthropic contributions totalling more than US$28.5 million to numerous non-profit beneficiaries worldwide. The mission of The Ironman Foundation is: ‘To leave Ironman’s legacy through philanthropy, voluntarism and grant making; by supporting various athletic, community, education, health, human services and public benefit non-profit organizations around the world.’
The Ironman Foundation is a US registered 501(c)(3) organisation and provides an opportunity for Ironman athletes to help those in the communities that support Ironman events. US residents who purchase Ironman Foundation slots will receive a tax-deduction in the amount of incremental registration price over general entry.
