The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation (FHSPSF) and The Ironman Foundation (IMF) have partnered to provide US$100,000 in grant funding for first responder groups in seven communities where Ironman races will take place.
The grants awarded will be for the purchase of critical, life-saving equipment, and will be distributed at Ironman events taking place between 3 August and 16 November 2014.
“This initiative builds on the solid history of both Foundations in supporting the important work of first responders across the United States,” said Dave Deschenes, Executive Director of The Ironman Foundation. “We look forward to continuing these efforts through the partnership with the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation.”
In 2013, the Ironman Foundation provided more than US$85,000 in grants to support groups such as fire and police departments and emergency medical services in the United States. As a part of that initiative, three search-and-rescue ATVs were purchased to address needs in both the Lake Placid and Lake Tahoe communities.
Additionally, funds raised through the annual Ironman Foundation auction on eBay have supported organizations such as the Daniel Robert Sayre Memorial Foundation, with funds benefitting The Hawai’i Fire Department on Hawai’i Island.
“Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation along with The Ironman Foundation are grateful for the opportunity to give back to those who loyally serve our communities,” said Robin Peters, Executive Director of FHSPSF. “As Ironman athletes prove that ’Anything is Possible,’ we feel that the mantra also represents what can be done to support the men and women who have dedicated their lives to protecting others.”
Grant awards through the FHSPSF and IMF partnership will typically range from US$10,000 to US$14,000, with the maximum award capped at US$15,000 per organization.
Funds will be awarded to eligible groups in communities where the following Ironman events take place: Ironman Boulder; Ironman Wisconsin; Ironman 70.3 Princeton; Ironman Chattanooga Benefitting Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America; Ironman World Championship presented by GoPro; Ironman Florida; Ironman Arizona presented by Waste Management.
The deadlines to apply range from 27 June until 10 October 2014, depending upon the Ironman race date.

The Ironman Foundation’s purpose is to leave a lasting impact in the race communities where Ironman events are held. The Ironman Foundation works with community leaders to help fund local initiatives, as well as give back to the non-profit organizations that provide volunteers at local races. Through these projects, The Foundation leaves a piece of the Ironman legacy behind after race day and establishes a stronger relationship within the Ironman race communities.
The Ironman Foundation’s Community Fund has provided more than US$13 million since its launch and is expected to give back more than US$1.6 million in grant funds in 2014.
