Panasonic is new title sponsor of 2014 New York City Triathlon

Life Time, ‘The Healthy Way of Life Company’, has confirmed that Panasonic will be the title sponsor the 2014 Panasonic New York City Triathlon – the renowned international distance event produced by Life Time. Set for Sunday 3 August, the iconic triathlon is part of the 2014 Life Time Tri Series, which includes 12 triathlons across the US between May and October.

The New York City Triathlon also marks the second event in the Toyota Triple Crown Series, which will award US$50,000 to the top professional female or male triathlete competing in Life Time Tri Minneapolis, New York City Triathlon and Life Time Tri Oceanside. The Toyota Triple Crown winner is declared at Life Time Tri Oceanside using an ‘equalizer’ time handicap in which men start behind women allowing each gender an equal chance of winning.

An estimated 4,000 triathletes are expected to participate in this year’s event and will swim 1.5K in the Hudson River, bike 40K on the Henry Hudson Parkway, and run 10K through Central Park.

“As a leader in consumer product technology, Panasonic is very excited and proud to partner with Life Time to sponsor one of the greatest triathlons in the country,” said Julie Bauer, President of Panasonic Consumer Electronics Company.

“Technology is playing a greater and greater role in enhancing the active lifestyle and Panasonic is excited to work with triathletes to capture their experiences and help them relive them through many of our rugged, adventure-focused products.”

Prizes
A total of US$30,000 in prize money will be awarded to the winners in the male and female pro categories. The race weekend will also include the annual Diaper Derby on Friday afternoon, Underwear Run on Friday night, and the Animal Medical Center Doggy Dash during the triathlon on Sunday.

Charity
For the third consecutive year, the Accenture Challenged Athletes International Championship will also be held during Panasonic New York City Triathlon. The race format allows all six Paratriathlon classes to compete against one another, providing a larger field of competition with US$7,500 in prize money awarded to the top five male and female finishers.
