Nikola pedals into Interbike

Nikola Innovation, a new company with an interesting take on a pedal’s motion, is launching at Interbike 2014 on 10-12 September in Las Vegas, Nevada. Nikola is targeting the cycling and triathlon markets with the introduction of its new pedal.

Coming to the market in autumn/fall 2014, Nikola is billed as the first road pedal that produces power, efficiency and comfort. Nikola Innovation, located in Cleveland, Ohio, has been in the research phase in recent years developing its optimal performance pedal.

Studying the motion of speed skaters and cyclists has been the foundation of Nikola’s new technology called ‘Zivo’, which has Serbian origination meaning ‘alive’.

Nikola completed studies at the Human Performance Lab of Cleveland State University refining the Zivo technology. This produced a claimed peak power improvement of 7% in a 30 second Wingate test (anaerobic test used to measure peak anaerobic power, as well as anaerobic capacity) and an efficiency improvement of 2.1%.

According to the company, this new motion creates comfort for riders’ knees and hips with its patented Synchronized Q-factor generated by Zivo.

Two versions of Nikola Pedals will be offered, one in titanium at an RRP of US$549, the second in stainless steel for US$339. Both pedals use a standard 3-hole style cleat and are compatible with any 9/16” crank-arm threading.
