Record numbers at Eurobike 2014

Billed as a success story, this year’s Eurobike 2014 came to an end on Saturday in Friedrichshafen, Germany, after four days of the international bicycle industry trade fair. In addition to a record number of exhibitors – 1320 companies from 54 countries – the international bicycle trade show also set a new record in the number of trade visitors.

A total of 46,300 trade visitors (2013: 45,200) from 111 countries landed in Friedrichshafen and obtained information about new products in the bicycle industry. With 21,100 bike fans on public day (2013: 20,400) and a total of 1,852 media representatives from 46 countries, the bicycle event on Lake Constance again achieved a strong result for the organisers.

“The mood among the exhibitors is excellent; we see a high level of satisfaction on the part of our customers,” said Messe Friedrichshafen CEO Klaus Wellmann, Area Manager Stefan Reisinger, and Eurobike Project Manager Dirk Heidrich.

The organising team also released a number of statements from exhibiting companies to back up a generally positive mood about the show:

  • Carsten Zahn, Head of Marketing, Rolf Bohle GmbH (Schwalbe) said, “There were masses of visitors here. Went well, met everyone, everything was great.”
  • Claus Wachsmann, Marketing Project Manager of Cube Bikes said “As the world’s leading trade fair in conjunction with Demo Day, the Eurobike is seen by us from Cube as an international event that is enormously important, especially for reaching other professionals in the business. We are absolutely satisfied, because we bring together many of our international customers and distributors here at the fair, and can generally make good contacts.”
  • Stefan Ytterborn, CEO and Founder of Poc, said “Eurobike 2014 was lovely. We had good traffic at our booth, the visitors were highly interested, and we are absolutely satisfied with this year’s show. I am overwhelmed and give it an eight out of ten.”

Premiere at the fairgrounds: Eurobike Demo Day
For the eighth edition of Eurobike Demo Day, 147 exhibitors presented their product innovations to representatives of the trade and media world from 42 countries. For the first time, the test event was rolled out on the eve of the leading trade fair and was held directly on the fairgrounds in Friedrichshafen.

“The logistical improvements showed a significant effect; our customers are very satisfied with the new concept,” said Messe Friedrichshafen CEO Klaus Wellmann at the end of Demo Day, which experienced 40% growth in the number of exhibitors and strong visitor participation even with some wet weather thrown into the mix.

International media coverage
The organisers also note that this year’s Eurobike ‘created quite a splash in the media’. Trade and daily media, as well as television and radio stations, reported on the subject of the bicycle around the world: A total of 1852 journalists from 46 countries attended the bike show. Every second journalist (53%) came from abroad.
