It has an international rugby stadium, a multi-million pound football team, a renowned half marathon and now Cardiff can boast a world class triathlon.
Welsh mass participation events company, Always Aim High Events, has announced that it will be bringing a brand new triathlon to the sports mad capital city of Cardiff. The Cardiff Triathlon will be held on Sunday 28 June 2015 and is expected to bring in over 2000 athletes and 6000 spectators to this vibrant city.
The race capitalises on the local area, starting with a swim in the legendary Cardiff Bay, followed by a cycle on the flat, scenic roads around Cardiff and finishing with a run out to the Cardiff Bay Barrage. The Event Village and transition zone will be held on Roald Dahl Plass in front of the iconic Wales Millennium Centre.
Entries opened for general sale yesterday (Monday 1 December 2014) at 09:00 GMT and the organizers note that entries are already flooding in. The event has already sold out its pre-sale place allocation, with the 450 places getting snapped up well in advance of entries being made open to the public.
Over 200 of these places went on the first day alone, proving how popular this race is set to be. So, those who want to enter this brand new event are advised to book a place as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
The Cardiff Triathlon will host both an Olympic distance (1500m/40K/10K) and a Sprint distance (750m/20K/5K) making it ‘the perfect race for competitors of all abilities.’
The Cardiff Triathlon will be the fifth triathlon in the Always Aim High Events portfolio, which includes the infamous Slateman, Sandman and Snowman trilogy.
Event planner and Always Aim High Events Director, Nigel Kendrick, is excited about the addition of the Cardiff Triathlon and what this will bring to the UK triathlon calendar.
Kendrick said “The Cardiff Triathlon has the makings to be one of the best tris in the UK. When setting an event, the location is the most important consideration for us and Cardiff Bay could not be a more iconic setting for a triathlon. The course is as challenging as it is beautiful and with an Olympic and Sprint distance available we hope to see people of all abilities on the start line next June.
“What makes this even more special is the fact that it is a totally home-grown event. We are a Welsh company putting on a world-class event in our capital city and we couldn’t be more proud.”
He continued, “As well as organising a world-class sporting event we will be putting a great deal of effort into generating a festival atmosphere that is increasingly becoming synonymous with Always Aim High Events. We will be organising music, displays and other attractions the whole family can enjoy. So if you are thinking of taking part in the inaugural Cardiff Triathlon make sure you bring the family and make a weekend of it!
“We would love to say a big thank you to the Welsh Government, City of Cardiff Council, Cardiff Harbour Authority and Cardiff Triathlon Club for all their support for this event. We would also like to thank Velindre for coming on board as our charity partner and we are keen to ensure as much money is possible is raised through the event for this deserving charity.”
Always Aim High Events are positioned as ‘the UK’s ultimate event organiser.’ Founded in 2011 and based in Snowdonia, North Wales, the company capitalizes on stunning landscapes and epic cityscapes to create some of the UK’s key triathlons, cycle sportives and running races.
