IRONMAN and local event organizer BN Sports Panama have announced the return of the IRONMAN 70.3 Panama triathlon. Scheduled for 31 January 2016, IRONMAN 70.3 Panama is also designated the Pan American Pro Championship for the IRONMAN 70.3 Series.
Professional athletes will race alongside age-group competitors on a breath-taking course that showcases a beautiful part of Central America. The 1.2-mile swim course will take place in the Pacific Ocean within the banks of the Panama Canal, and the new two-loop bike course leads athletes from the Amador Causeway en route to the new Avenida de los Poetas.
This passes by the Casco Viejo (Old City) over a magnificent new section of the Cinta Costera (Coastal Strip) over the Panama Bay heading towards Costa del Este via the Corredor Sur turning around at Costa del Sur. The two-loop run course utilizes the Amador Causeway, a major tourism area surrounded by the Pacific Ocean.
One of nearly 85 events in the global IRONMAN 70.3 Series, the race offers a total professional prize purse of US$100,000 and 30 age-group qualifying slots to the 2016 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship taking place in Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia.
Registration for the fourth edition of the race will open today, 12 February 2015, at 11:00 ET, and will be available through the event’s official website.
