Eddy Merckx Cycles is adding a new string to its bow. From now on, all of its high-end carbon forks and frames will be CT-scanned. In this way, Eddy Merckx Cycles seeks to demonstrate its commitment to quality and the reason why the company can offer a Strict Lifetime Warranty on all bikes in its range.
CT scans (Computed Tomography, using X-ray technology) of the forks and frames will be carried out during both the R&D (Research & Development) and QC (Quality Control) phases. As a result, Eddy Merckx Cycles feels that riders can have complete confidence as they push themselves to the limit on their Eddy Merckx racing bikes.
The CT scans of the forks and frames will be used to examine the following points:
- Is the tube wall as thick as it should be at all points? Are there any anomalies?
- Are there any wrinkles in the lay-up?
- Have the carbon layers bonded well? Is there any air between them?
The company adds that these issues can be difficult to detect without a CT scan.
Every bike release by Eddy Merckx Cycles is intended as ‘a tribute to the rich heritage created by the greatest racing cyclist of all time.’ The rich history of man and bicycle is thereby ‘linked in a contemporary and self-perpetuating way to the promising future of the brand.’
The company was created by Eddy Merckx in 1980 and is still based in Belgium. Eddy Merckx Cycles sells high-end racing bikes in more than 25 countries via 20 distribution partners. At the Benelux level the brand is sold by around 85 official Eddy Merckx Cycles dealers.
