The Events DC Nation’s Triathlon – ‘the only triathlon held in Washington, DC’ – is gearing up for its 10th annual event. The Events DC Nation’s Triathlon to Benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society will take place on Sunday 13 September 2015.
Triathletes can register at NationsTri.com, with opportunities to join one of the many races-within-a-race challenges—ranging from military to congressional challenges.
“The 10th annual Events DC Nation’s Triathlon showcases the best of Washington DC,” said Erik Moses, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of Events DC’s Sports and Entertainment Division. “From the monuments to the parks, visitors from around the world become immersed in the 200 years of history.”
He continued, “Last year the event attracted triathletes and spectators from 15 countries and 47 states, who sampled the local restaurants, stayed in the District’s hotels, visited the historic museums and experienced why DC is rated America’s fittest city.”
The Events DC Nation’s Triathlon consists of an Olympic distance race and a shorter Sprint distance that was added last year for the first time in the race’s history. The weekend celebration kicks off with a free two-day Health & Fitness Expo and concludes with a finish line festival featuring a local DJ.
The prestigious event is renowned for a scenic course that winds through the National Mall and Memorial Parks, passes by Washington DC’s historical landmarks and concludes with a finish line south of the Lincoln Memorial.
“In our 10th year, we want to continue pushing the envelope in terms of staging one of the most distinguished triathlon events in the world in our Nation’s Capital,” said Nick Lynch, Vice President of Nation’s Triathlon and TriRock Triathlon Series.
“Our partners at Events DC are instrumental in helping us attract even more participants to Washington DC from outside the beltway and abroad. We can’t wait for them to experience DC’s true beauty and allure, while participating at one of the most prestigious endurance sports events.”
The Events DC Nation’s Triathlon features several races-within-a-race including the Military & Uniformed Services Challenge, open to active duty military and veterans; Herbalife Congressional Challenge, open to federal and Capitol Hill employees; the Collegiate Challenge, open to participants who are members of a college or university triathlon club or team; Etihad Airways Tri Club Challenge, for triathlon club members; and the First Responders Challenge, for all active duty police officers, fire fighters, emergency medical personnel or other first responders.
Building off of the success of its eight-year partnership, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society returns as the official and exclusive charity of the event, which is the only triathlon in the country to benefit research toward a cure for blood cancers. Through the Team In Training program, participants have raised more than US$14 million for blood cancer research and patient service programs.
