Challenge Galway expands with half distance event in Ireland

Challenge Galway

Challenge Family has confirmed that its flagship event in Ireland, Challenge Galway, is adding a half distance race next June. According to a release, this is a ‘highly anticipated move and comes about due to demand from the triathlon public who have inundated [the] event organisers to add a half distance race to the Challenge Galway experience when the race series lands in Ireland on 26 June 2016.’

The race route will be similar to the long distance race announced earlier this year, with the swim start in Renville Oranmore, followed by a one loop 90K bike route taking in Kinvarra, the Wild Atlantic Way and back to the Galway Docklands before taking in two flat run loops of Galway city centre.

Challenge Family has also announced a special discount entry price of €169 for the first 250 entrants into the new half/middle distance triathlon. Price tiers will increase per tier for each 250 additional entrants. The organisers are strongly advising athletes to enter early, as space will be limited.

Entries open today, 27 October, at 19:00 GMT at challenge-galway.eu.

In addition, to celebrate the event announcement, Challenge Family is giving four athletes the opportunity to secure a slot for Challenge Roth 2016. These Roth slots are being made available as follows:

  • 1st person to enter wins because its Challenge Galway’s first year!
  • 13th person because Challenge Family is 13 years old!
  • 26th person because the race takes place on 26 June!
  • 113th because it is the distance of the race in Ks!

The new Half Distance Challenge Family race in Ireland was shared earlier today via the event’s Facebook page – with Galway’s own pro triathlete Kevin Thornton helping to spread the word via a video post.

As the event is expected to generate high levels of demand, the organising team is on the look-out for volunteers to help support the athlete experience on race day. Interested volunteers can contact Steffi Kraus, via steffi[at]challenge-galway.eu, for further details.

Meanwhile, the organisers will also look to announce further Roth slot allocations for the Challenge Galway full distance event next week.
