New waves just launched at the Windsor Triathlon will allow a limited number of triathletes to avoid Saturday registration and rack on-the-day for the first time. The Mates Waves will give friends, family members and rivals the chance to race alongside each other regardless of age and gender, whilst also offering the option of racking on Saturday or Sunday over the weekend of 11-12 June.
Capacity in these new waves will be limited, so those interested are advised by event organizer Human Race to register immediately.
Since its debut in 1991, tens of thousands of participants have competed in the Windsor Triathlon, and the event returns for a 26th edition on Sunday 12 June. In recent years, organiser Human Race has introduced Mates Waves to its triathlons at Dorney Lake. These have become ‘a firm favourite, and continue to increase in popularity each year.’
The four special Mates Waves at Windsor will allow triathletes taking on the Sprint or Olympic distance the opportunity to rack on the morning before they race.
Nick Rusling, CEO of organiser Human Race Events, said “Windsor is quite rightly considered one of the greatest triathlons in the UK, and it’s important that we continue to make enhancements so participants have an unforgettable experience. Our new Mates Waves with on-the-day racking is just one of the improvements we are making this year, and if successful, we will look to make available to more people in 2017.”
Windsor is one of the most popular triathlons in the UK, with thousands of participants already signed up and with only limited places remaining. Several distances will be on offer in the historic and picturesque surroundings of Windsor Castle, including the popular Sprint (750m swim, 30K bike, 5K run) and Olympic distances (1.5K swim, 42K bike, 10K run).
Windsor became the first event to win the British Triathlon Federation (BTF) triathlon of the year award a notable seven times, and continues to attract visitors from all over the UK and the world to take part.
