IRONMAN has announced the 2016 winners of the IRONMAN and IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship Physically Challenged Open/Exhibition Division Drawing – five athletes for the 2016 IRONMAN World Championship and three athletes for the 2016 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship.
In honour of the vision of IRONMAN co-founders, John and Judy Collins, IRONMAN notes that it is committed to providing athletes of all abilities a means of entry to its prestigious World Championship events. Through this initiative, five physically challenged athletes have been randomly chosen to race ‘the most iconic and challenging single-day endurance event, the IRONMAN World Championship on 8 October 2016 in Kailua-Kona, Hawai’i.’
In addition, three physically challenged athletes secured their entry into the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship on 4 September 2016 in Queensland, Australia’s Sunshine Coast.
Both the IRONMAN World Championship and IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship Physically Challenged Open/Exhibition Divisions are available to athletes with a medically verified physical, visual, or neurological impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities.
