British Triathlon and Triathlon England have announced the opening of the 2017 Major Event bidding process and invite event organisers in England, Scotland and Wales to bid to host British Championship, English Championship and Great Britain Age-Group Team Qualifier events in 2017.
The annual bidding process gives event organisers of permitted triathlons, duathlons and aquathons across the Home Nation Associations the opportunity to host events that make up the 2017 Major Events Programme. Events that are successful in their bids ‘represent the very best Great Britain has to offer, and will play host to Britain’s best age group athletes.’
A variety of Championships are included in the bidding process:
- British Age-Group Sprint Distance Triathlon Championships
- British Age-Group Middle Distance Triathlon Championships
- Triathlon England – National Duathlon Championships
- Triathlon England – National Sprint Distance Triathlon Championships
- Triathlon England – National Standard Distance Triathlon Championships
- Triathlon England – National Middle Distance Triathlon Championships
- Triathlon England – National Aquathlon Championships
In addition to these championships, a range of Great Britain Age Group Team Qualifiers are also included in the bidding process. Details of all events that are included in this bidding process and a bidding application form can be downloaded below.

We would like to highly encourage events both old and new to bid for our British Triathlon and Triathlon England major event titles for 2017 and help us to raise the profile of triathlon to greater levels than previously achieved.”
Duncan Hough, Triathlon England Board Director for Events, Rules and Technical added “We are excited about the Major Events bidding for 2017 which coincides with our summer of sport, with the Olympic and Paralympic Games on the horizon, and hope that it will bring even more people into triathlon.
“We are looking for enthusiastic event organisers to help build on this momentum and offer Triathlon England Championship events that will appeal to the experienced athlete and the novice first-timer too.”
British Triathlon and Triathlon England are particularly encouraging bids from event organisers who have not bid before to host a British Triathlon or Triathlon England Major Event, particularly those who have hosted regional series or other championship events. Bidding for a National Championship is seen as a great step in raising the profile of events.

British Triathlon is a beneficiary of the UK Sport Lottery funded World-Class Programmes (WCP). The programmes focus on performance sport with the aim of achieving sporting excellence on the world stage.
