MODUAL billed as ‘the last bicycle multi-tool you will ever need’

MODUAL multi-tool

Just released as a campaign on crowd-funding site Kickstarter, the MODUAL range is Altum Designs’ first product release and consists of MODUAL Tool System (MTS) and MODUAL Tool Roll (MTR).

MTS is an innovative 13 function bicycle multi-tool and MTR an accompanying tool roll that also provides a means of transporting a cyclist’s essential items. The company adds that both products are comprehensive enough for use at home but compact enough for the road.

MODUAL seeks to offer a portable yet powerful alternative to conventional folding multi-tools. MTS is a modular system that utilises tool bits rather than pivoting allen keys. Tyre levers snap magnetically to each side forming an ergonomic handle whilst its elongated body provides leverage.

The head of the tool features a pair of tool bit slots, one acting as a wrench and the other like a screwdriver, which allow for easy access to any bolt. MTS holds four tool bits internally so it can be reconfigured to match the individual requirements of any bike.

MTS features:

  • 2/2.5/3/4/5/6/8mm tool bits
  • PH2 tool bit
  • T25 tool bit
  • Tool bit extender
  • 3.23/3.3/3.45mm spoke keys
  • Tyre levers

MTR is positioned as a novel twist on the traditional tool roll and is constructed from hard-wearing Cordura. The top flap provides a workstation whether at home or on the roadside. It even features a hidden magnet so ‘no longer is there a risk of tool bits getting lost’.

Internal sections are divided to store MTS (and its attachments) as well as other cycling essentials and there is an external strap for securing a spare inner tube. MTR is spacious when flat but when folded up forms a compact bundle that can be strapped under a saddle or sit in a jersey pocket.
