Increased focus on mobility: new resident coach at Triathlon Training Spain

Triathlon Training Spain - open water swimming

In mid-August a new resident coach at Triathlon Training Spain arrived and went straight in at the deep end with a triathlon camp. Bringing his extensive swim coaching background, Matt Hill joins the team in southern Spain to strengthen its swim coaching ability and knowledge and also to ‘bring his expert knowledge in the field of mobility and strength training’.

In his previous role in the UK as assistant head coach to a large swim club, Matt Hill developed swimmers to the point where county, regional and national qualifying times were attained, improving on the club’s previous years’ success.

(Close to Alicante, Spain, and with an average of over 300 days of sunshine every year – Triathlon Training Spain recently established a new venture, with a programme of training that will be open to a limited number of European triathletes and athletes who would like to live and be coached full-time in the Costa Blanca.)

Matt Hill’s input to date in Triathlon Training Spain’s expanding roster of training camps has reportedly been very well received – from the first triathlon camp with a GB age group triathlete in her final training before taking the bronze medal in the Cozumel ITU World Championships in September through to some of Triathlon Training Spain’s most recent triathletes, one being successfully part way through the Commonwealth Games qualification process for the 2018 Games.

All Triathlon Training Spain swim and triathlon training camps now have an ‘increased focus on mobility as well as the usual high quality individual coaching in swim, bike and run – starting with a postural assessment to really identify each individual athlete’s needs.’

Head Coach Martin Hill said “We have already been busy working on a series of educational swim videos that will form the basis of our camps for attendees to view and use when necessary to support their learning during the course of the camp; these can be viewed on our YouTube channel where you can also subscribe to see our videos as they are published.”

These videos will also form the basis for a new swim development programme that Triathlon Training Spain aims to launch late in 2016 to support triathletes’ swim training for the 2017 season.
