The Rouleur Classic returns to Victoria House in London, with the exhibition running from 1-3 November 2018. ‘The greatest cyclist of all time’, Eddy Merckx, has been announced as the guest of honour and on the opening night, he will be inducted into the inaugural Rouleur Hall of Fame.
This is a celebration of cycling’s heroes, ‘preserving its history and lauding the sport’s brightest lights’. A guest at the first-ever Rouleur Classic, Merckx will be joined in the Hall of Fame by Beryl Burton, represented at the event by her daughter Denise.
As well as Eddy Merckx, there will be a stellar line-up of guests and pro-riders in attendance, with more to be announced over the coming months. Sir Bradley Wiggins, Fabian Cancellara, Paolo Bettini, Maurizio Fondriest, George Bennett, Ivan Basso, Sean Kelly, Lizzie Deignan, Brian Holm, Juan Antonio Flecha, George Bennett, David Millar, Jonathan Edwards, Ned Boulting, Orla Chennaoui, Matt Stephens, Matt Barbet, David Lappartient, Rob Hatch, Mike Kluge, Mandy Jones and FK Day have all been confirmed.
Sir Bradley Wiggins will be attending on Friday to discuss his new book ICONS. In the book, Wiggins takes the reader on an intimate journey through the sport of cycling, presenting key pieces from his never-before-seen collection of memorabilia, some of which will be on display at the Rouleur Classic. Over the course of his illustrious career, he amassed hundreds of items – often gifts from cycling’s greatest and most controversial figures. Each reflects an icon, a race or a moment that fundamentally influenced Wiggins on both a personal and professional level.
By exploring the lives and achievements of 21 of the sport’s key figures – among them Fausto Coppi, Jacques Anquetil, Miguel Induráin and Tom Simpson – Wiggins sheds new light on what professional cycling demands of its best competitors. ‘ICONS lauds their triumphs, elucidates their demons and sheds light on the philosophy and psychology that comprise the unique mindset of a cycling champion.’
The theme for this year’s Rouleur Classic is the UCI Road World Championships and the show will look forward to the 2019 event to be held in Yorkshire whilst celebrating past achievements at the Championships. The show organising team adds that ‘the Rouleur Classic provides the opportunity to enjoy both the athletes and brands at the very pinnacle of cycling in a relaxed yet prestigious environment.’
The Rouleur Classic will once again showcase a unique collection of experiences and exhibits curated exclusively for a passionate and knowledgeable cycling audience. After three years, the Rouleur Classic welcomes new partners in Santini – official clothing partner of the UCI Road World Championships – My Switzerland and Made in Bern.
