The third edition of the Long Course Weekend Mallorca has unveiled a ‘Half’ version of the event, in addition to the traditional Long Course Weekend distance (3,800m swim, 172km bike, 42.2km run). The full distance, and the new half distance, are run across three consecutive days.
The participants of the Half shorter version will compete half of the distance (1,900m swim, 86km bike and 21.1km run).
Long Course Weekend Mallorca 2019 will be held in Alcudia, in the north of the Spanish island. Racing takes place on Saturday 26th, Sunday 27th and Monday 28th October. More than 1,000 athletes are expected to take part in the three-day sporting festival with different sports and a wide range of distances to choose from.
If an athlete wants to be a part of the weekend but doesn’t want to do the longer distances, they can enter other combinations (e.g. swim and run). With half distances now added into the mix, the organising team add that the event is suitable for newcomers as well as those triathletes who are looking for a demanding challenge to finish the season.
Full distance athletes can become ‘Legends’, attempting to receive the Long Course Weekend medal. This entails completing all three of the longest distances each day. Successful LCW athletes will be awarded with a fourth LCW medal in a final special awards ceremony.
Swim Day
The Swim Day is an open water swim race that will take place on Saturday 26th October. Here, participants can choose between different options: 750m, 1,500m, 1,900m or 3,800m. All formats take place at the ‘calm and turquoise bay of Alcudia’.
Bike Day
On Sunday 27th is the Sportive/Gran Fondo, Bike Day, a cycling race with twho distances to choose: 172km or 86km. Here, drafting is allowed and riding takes place on fully closed roads.
Run Day
The culmination of this three day sporting festival is on Monday 28th, with the Run Day. Here, there are four different options to compete: 5km, 10km, 21km or 42km. All the courses are along the beach promenade, next to the sea, in a flat route with views and surrounded by palm trees.
