The Gran Fondo World Tour series finale has taken place in South Africa with the Tsogo Sun Amashova Durban Classic on Sunday, October 20th.
Next year’s Tsogo Sun Amashova Durban Classic takes place on 18 October 2020, and entries have already opened.
11,000 participants completed the final event of the Gran Fondo World Tour (GFWT) series in Durban, South Africa. There were with four distances on offer, 35-65-106 and 160 km.
The GFWT organising team noted that the event has ‘Become the biggest gran fondo party on South Africa’s east coast and has year-by-year established a reference point for single day cycling sport events.’
All race distances finish on Durban’s promenade sea line, in front of the Tsogo Sun Coast mall. Longer event distances start in Pietermaritzburg and include the historical distance of the Comrades Marathon, sharing the same start line in the city centre.
The organisers add that this represents ‘one of the most iconic distances to cover running or cycling for all endurance sport fanatics of South Africa.’
A new GFWT 2020 calendar will be revealed in the middle to end of November with all new destinations and features for the Gran Fondo World Tour series confirmed. The organisers add that the series hosts over 55,000 cyclists across all destinations – with virtual events also in the mix – and with riders representing five continents and more than 54 nationalities as ‘one of the biggest gran fondo communities in the world’.
