According to the organisers of the new 2575 Triathlon Series, Chris ‘Macca’ McCormack has confirmed that he will be racing 2575 Triathlon. Meanwhile, cycling and custom clothing company Hawk Racing has joined 2575 Triathlon as Official Swim Sponsor.
The 2575 Triathlon Series introduces a new approach to the sport of triathlon. Along the same lines as the 5150 series, unveiled by World Triathlon Corp (WTC) back in October 2010, the number 2575 represents the distance raced by athletes in a sprint triathlon (0.75K swim, 20K bike, 5K run).
Although the new 2575 series is organised by Miami Tri Events, which puts on the Miami International Triathlon and Rohto Ironman 70.3 Miami events, amongst others, this new series of races is a separate initiative from the Olympic/International distance 5150 series from WTC.
Macca sprints
Following his migration from short course, to long course, to a bid to compete at next year’s Olympics, McCormack began competing on international-distance courses back in 1996, winning both the 1997 Triathlon World Championships and the 1997 ITU World Cup Series.
McCormack also won Ironman Australia in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006. Twice he finished Quelle Challenge Roth in less than 8 hours, a feat only 5 other athletes have completed. In addition, he won the Ironman World Championships in 2007 and 2010. According to the 2575 Series team, Macca will now be giving everything in Miami to prove he is among the fastest at the Sprint distance!
If Macca is able to race in Miami this December, as such a high-profile athlete, he will surely give a boost to the 2575 team as they get their series off the ground. (On 4 December 2011, the City of Miami Marine Stadium in Key Biscayne, Miami, Florida is the starting point for the new and expanding series.)
Hawk Racing
Following on from its sponsorship of Ironman 70.3 Florida, Hawk Racing has joined the 2575 Triathlon Family as Official Swim Sponsor. Cycling and custom clothing company Hawk Racing is based in Florida, USA, with a mission ‘to provide athletes of all levels, from novice to expert, with the highest quality products on the market at great prices.’
With products that are ‘made for athletes by athletes’, Hawk Racing is passionate about triathlon. Owner and founder Sven Folmer explained, “Hawk Racing was founded to support other athletes like myself to enjoy the awesome sport of triathlon. I am a triathlete that believes in giving back to the athletes and helping them succeed.”
Charity support
The 2575 Triathlon Series is also being created to bring positive change to local communities. Race directors hosting 2575 branded events are encouraged to choose a charitable entity, and support the charity by bringing awareness and providing athletes with an opportunity to donate and make a difference.
For this year’s 2575 Triathlon Miami, The Window to the Heavens (La Ventana de los Cielos) charity, which helps children with disabilities and special needs in their development, will receive a portion of all registrations, as well as athlete donations.
