In 2020, the organisers of Eurobike have adapted the award process in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. The trade show’s team adds that this is ‘without making any sacrifices on quality and impartiality’ to keep the Eurobike Award as one of the most important prizes for design and innovation in the world of bikes.
Bicycle and mobility companies, designers and developers have been entering product innovations for the Eurobike Award 2020 since this April. For the award process, the organisers are relying on tried and tested mechanisms; however these have been adapted in response to the Coronavirus.
Eurobike Project Manager Dirk Heidrich said “This year, we have moved the award procedure back somewhat, adjusted it and introduced more digital features. Nevertheless, the two-day decision-making panel where the judges meet to assess the products remains in place. We are convinced that this is the only way to ensure that all the new bike innovations are extensively tested, properly discussed and fully evaluated right down to the smallest detail.”
This year, the timing of the award process has been adapted to take account of the later start to the season and the postponing of Eurobike to November 2020. As such, the award’s early registration discount has been extended to 23 June, while the closing date for registration remains at 9 July.
Following a digital pre-selection round with 12 judges, the final judges panel with six industry experts will be held on 5-6 August. Selection for the 2020 judges panel has had to consider respective international travel restrictions. The panel members will be announced shortly.
The Eurobike Award 2020 winners will be announced on the original trade show date – 2 September 2020 – during a digital award ceremony. In addition, the new digital Start-Up Pitch event for young entrepreneurs and new businesses will be held on the same day.
The industry will still get an opportunity to see the award-winning products live as the Eurobike Award Display is planned to remain a permanent feature of the trade fair that is scheduled to take place from 24-26 November 2020 in Friedrichshafen, Germany.
