Roc d’Azur gears up to welcome MTB community this October

The 37th edition of the Roc d’Azur in southeastern France is scheduled to take place in Fréjus from October 7-11.

“The spirit of the Roc d’Azur will once again give summer a new lease on life in the Maures massif, said Édouard Cassignol, Director of Mass Events at Amaury Sport Organisation (A.S.O), the organiser of the Roc d’Azur.

“In spite of a few tweaks here and there due to the health crisis, the 37th edition of the biggest MTB event on earth will take place on the nature base in Fréjus from 7 to 11 October, as originally planned.

“From the moment the crisis struck, we started exploring all our options. The ability to adapt is part and parcel of our job, so the whole team kept working hard to be able to guarantee the optimal conditions for MTB lovers to enjoy an event that they eagerly look forward to every year. Safety has been at the forefront of our priorities at all times.”

There are 33 races on the programme for riders of all levels (competitive events, rides, electric-assist bikes, gravel grinders, etc.) and ages (starting from age 2 with the Kid Roc Draisienne).

Among the changes resulting from the health crisis is the postponement of the event’s first foray into Esterel massif to next year, after the last few months of lockdown prevented the organising team from completing their reconnoitring.

Therefore, in order to guarantee the safety of the competitors and make sure they can enjoy the race, the organisers, local authorities and the Departmental Fire and Emergency Service (SDIS 83) agreed to leave the Esterel experience for the next edition in 2021.

‘The organisers will keep a close watch on developments and follow the guidelines of health authorities and government services scrupulously. Everything will be in place to welcome all the participants, visitors and exhibitors in optimal conditions, as usual, with the promise of an intense and unique experience for all MTB lovers in a privileged environment between the Mediterranean Sea and the Maures massif.’

Along with the rides and races, many leading brands from the world of mountain biking will be returning this year to showcase their ranges and latest products.
