National governing body British Cycling has received approval from the UK Government’s Department for Culture Media & Sport (DCMS) on its return to racing action plan.
British Cycling’s six-stage plan for resuming activities – called The Way Forward – has been developed in collaboration with stakeholders from across the sport. It is continually being updated in light of new Government guidance.
The organisation is currently on Stage 4 of the process, and reaching Stage 6 will mark a return of all events and activities – though certain protocols may still apply.
Stage 4 overview
- Sanctioned club and group activity and events
- Racing from 1 August.
- Increase in coaching group size and ‘one metre plus’ for group rides from 23 July
- Race/event field sizes determined by risk assessment
- Coaching sessions max 30
- Club and group rides max 6
- ‘One metre plus’ acceptable for coaching sessions and group riding
- In addition to the use of open access roads, bridleways and trails – outdoor facilities can be open for recreational, group and club activity as well as some forms of racing up to a regional level in line with UK Government / British Cycling guidelines
- Stage 4 marks the return of some competitive event formats, in line with BC guidance on return to events
- There are no road racing or sportives at this stage
- Spectating is permitted in line with British Cycling guidance on the return to events
