Following a recent change in UK Government guidelines about gathering in groups during the Covid-19 pandemic, British Triathlon has issued a statement that it is ‘pleased to confirm multisport can continue.’
This week, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced ‘the rule of six’ regarding gatherings indoors and outdoors. This rule, which comes into force on Monday, September 14, makes it illegal in England to gather in a group of more than six people.
Following the UK Government announcement, British Triathlon issued a statement that it is… ‘pleased to confirm that swim, bike and run activity and events in England are exempt from the new guidelines.
‘Activity and events can continue to operate provided they are Covid Secure and delivered in accordance with our guidance.
‘We also want to remind people of how vital social distancing and proper hand hygiene are for our sport and continuing our return to activity.’
Sport England also issued a statement confirming the position…
We’ve got clarity from government and they’ve advised that from 14 Sept, people can continue to:
- take part in organised sports and activities that have been through return to play protocols
- take part in organised outdoor sports and physical activity events
- use leisure facilities, including gyms and pools
That’s because these sports and activities have stringent plans in place to reduce the risk of Covid-19, and these venues are classed as Covid secure given the measures they have introduced.
