Elite paratriathlete Joel Rosinbum has been announced as the newest USA Triathlon Board of Directors President, following the Board’s 2021 officer elections. Rosinbum is the first paratriathlete in USA Triathlon’s history to be elected to the position.
Kevin Haas, a Board member since 2013 and Treasurer from 2014-2020, was newly elected as Vice President. Henry Brandon was newly elected as Treasurer, and incumbent Keri Serota was re-elected to her post as Secretary.
Joel Rosinbum (Austin, Texas), while new to the role of President, has served as Vice President of the Board since 2019. He first joined the Board in 2015 as an elite athlete representative.
Rosinbum is a four-time USA Paratriathlon national champion, the 2015 ITU Aquathlon world champion in the men’s PTS4 division, a two-time ITU Paratriathlon World Cup medalist, and the 2017 Edmonton ITU World Paratriathlon Series bronze medalist. He has held a number of other leadership positions on the Board, including chair of both USA Triathlon’s Athlete Advisory Committee (AAC) and Nominating & Governance Committee.
“The sport of triathlon has been through its most challenging year in history, but we are on the road to recovery,” Rosinbum said. “As USA Triathlon Board President, I am eager to begin charting the path forward, with a focus on serving the multisport community and reaching new audiences.
“I am proud to have been a voice for elite athletes and paratriathletes throughout my service on the Board. It’s an honour to be the first Athlete Director to serve as Board President.”
Kevin Haas (Burlingame, California), elected as Vice President, has been a member of the USAT Board since 2013 as the Pacific Region representative and Treasurer from 2014-2020. He previously served as the Collegiate Committee Chair and President of the UC-Berkeley Triathlon Team. Haas holds a B.S. from the University of Wisconsin, a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from University of California – Berkeley, has worked in research and development for Counsyl Inc, and is now the Senior Vice President of Technology at Myriad Genetics, a leading precision medicine company dedicated to improving and transforming patient lives in Oncology, Women’s Health, and Neuroscience.
Henry Brandon (Los Angeles, California) will serve in an officer role for the first time as Treasurer. He joined the Board in 2019, and along with Dr Tekemia Dorsey who was also elected that year, became the Board’s first African American members. As Treasurer, Brandon will become the Board’s first elected African American officer.
Brandon is Chief Operating Officer and Partner at Nile Capital Group, a Los Angeles-based private equity firm. His prior roles include Senior Vice President at Wells Fargo; Managing Director at Vintage Fund Management; President, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer at Leeward Islands Lottery Holding Company; and Principal at William E. Simon & Sons. He serves or has served on several nonprofit boards primarily with organizations championing equal access for young people from underserved communities in the areas of education, sport and health and wellness.
Keri Serota (Highland Park, Illinois), who first joined the Board in 2018 as the Mideast Region Representative, was elected for a second term as Secretary. Serota is the co-founder, executive director and a coach of the Chicago-based Dare2tri, one of the nation’s largest paratriathlon clubs. She is a USA Triathlon Certified Race Director, Level I and Paratriathlon Certified Coach and the Vice Chair of the USA Triathlon National Paratriathlon Committee.
Rosinbum named to USOPC Athletes’ Advisory Council
In addition to his new role as President of the USA Triathlon Board of Directors, Joel Rosinbum was also elected to the US Olympic & Paralympic Committee’s Athletes’ Advisory Council (AAC). The USOPC AAC is responsible for broadening communication between the USOPC and active athletes and serves as a source of input and advice to the organization’s Board of Directors.
The AAC is comprised of one representative from each Olympic and Pan American sport, eight athletes representing the Paralympic Sport Organizations, and six athletes elected by the AAC to serve at-large, including a chair and two vice chairs. Rosinbum starts in the role immediately and will serve a four-year term.
