LimeLight Sports publishes sustainability manifesto

LimeLight Sports has today published its sustainability manifesto. The marketing & mass participation company states that this is a ‘landmark moment for the sports marketing sector, and addresses all three pillars of sustainability: social, environmental, and economic.’

The manifesto sets out LimeLight’s long-term commitment to operating in a way that is better for people and the planet. LimeLight will hold itself to account through the publication of an annual impact report, to track progress and identify improvement targets for the future – claimed to be an industry first.

The commitment is a formal culmination of LimeLight’s ongoing sustainability efforts in participation sport. Efforts that helped shape the roll out of the 2007 British Standard for sustainable event management, which led to the ISO 20121 standard in 2012, the principles of which underpin the company’s planning processes.

LimeLight’s sustainability credentials are most evident in the Royal Parks Half Marathon, created in partnership with The Royal Parks in 2008. The collaboration has seen the implementation of several environmentally sustainable initiatives, such as being one of the first major races in the UK to go plastic free; with the launch of a nationally successful #RunGreen campaign, which is still running today.

Craig Dews, LimeLight Sports Group CEO, said “As a purpose driven business, we are proud of the positive impact that LimeLight Sports Group has each year, creating and delivering campaigns that enable hundreds of thousands of people to be active, and providing charities with fundraising opportunities that generate millions of pounds for good causes.

“However, we know that there is much more to do. Through the development of our sustainability manifesto, we are making a commitment to doing the right thing and continuing to hold ourselves to account.”

Further to its Sustainability Manifesto, LimeLight Sports Group has joined the United Nations Sports for Climate Action initiative as a signatory to the Sports for Climate Action Framework.

The Sports for Climate Action initiative calls on sporting organizations to acknowledge the contribution of the sports sector to climate change and their responsibility to strive towards climate neutrality for a safer planet. By signing the Framework, LimeLight adds that it has ‘further demonstrated a commitment to playing its part to ensure that the sports sector is on the path to a low-carbon future.’

‘The manifesto, commitment to publishing an annual report and signing up to the UN Sports for Climate Action Framework is just the start of LimeLight’s increased sustainability efforts, with further initiatives and announcements to come. But it all stems from a belief that the time to act is now.’
