Mario Mola and Non Stanford added to Super League Triathlon Championship Series

Former world champion triathletes Mario Mola and Non Stanford are among the athletes that have been added to the line-up for the Super League Triathlon 2021 Championship Series.

Mola, the Spanish star who won the ITU World Triathlon Series title for three consecutive years between 2016-2018, is expected to bring added spice to the racing, as well as Great Britain’s Stanford, who took the World Triathlon crown in 2013.

Also confirmed to race the entire Championship Series, which kicks off in London on Sunday, September 5, is Australian Jake Birtwhistle and France’s former Under-23 World Champion Emilie Morier.

They join the likes of Vincent Luis, Katie Zaferes, Jess Learmonth, Alex Yee, Cassandre Beaugrand, Hayden Wilde, Jonny Brownlee and Georgia Taylor-Brown in taking up the challenge of racing four back-to-back events.

There are also a host of up-and-coming stars being handed an opportunity to prove themselves against some of the biggest names in the sport – such as Jannik Schaufler, Max Studer and Tayler Reid.

This September’s Super League Triathlon Championship Series calendar is:

  • September 5: London, UK
  • September 12: Munich, Germany
  • September 18: Jersey, Channel Islands
  • September 25: Malibu, USA

The final start lists will contain 20 male and 20 female athletes, with wildcards set to be announced in the lead-up to each race. Tokyo Olympic champion Flora Duffy has already been confirmed to race in Malibu.

Today’s announcement sees the following athletes added to race the entire series:

  • Women: Non Stanford, Carolina Routier, Vittoria Lopes, Simone Ackermann, Emilie Morier.
  • Men: Jake Birtwhistle, Aaron Royle, Mario Mola, Jannik Schaufler, Kenji Nener, Max Studer, Marco van der Stel, Shachar Sagiv, Tamás Tóth, Tayler Reid.

Super League adds that it will be making a host of other announcements over the next fortnight.
