Central London open water swimming event, Dock2Dock, organised by Love Sports Events, is hosting another day of racing at the London Royal Docks.
Love Sports reported a sell-out event in 2020, and is returning to the London Royal Docks on September 4th, 2021, with the addition of a new distance – the 15k.
This year’s event also has fundraising enabled in aid of the Sea Cadets, a national youth charity. The fundraising component will be handled by global non-profit crowdfunding platform GivenGain.
The Sea Cadets Royal Docks Boat Station is one of the standout landmarks along the race routes, and cadets have helped out in previous years by providing safety cover for swimmers. Now Love Sports Events is looking to return the favour by turning the event into a fundraising opportunity.
“The businesses and companies around the docks form a wonderful community,” said a spokesperson at Love Sports Events. “Hosting an event in the area is a privilege and we couldn’t do this without the support of this community. The Sea Cadets are one such neighbour who work tirelessly to help young people not only locally, but throughout the UK.”
GivenGain allows participants to start individual fundraising projects in aid of Sea Cadets, giving them a way to track their progress as well as their position on the overall event fundraising leaderboard.
Anyone taking part in any of the day’s events can make their challenge count for charity by registering a free account on GivenGain, starting a fundraising project and then sharing it with friends, family and supporters around the world.
The average fundraiser on GivenGain reportedly raises £800 for their chosen charity.
“We’re really excited to be working with the Sea Cadets and Love Sports Events to help make Dock2Dock more meaningful through participant fundraising,” said Robyn Andrews, Regional Manager, UK and Ireland at GivenGain.
“After a year in which most mass participation fundraising events were cancelled or postponed, it’s great to once again see people turning out in numbers to make a difference. Don’t miss this chance to take on an incredible sporting challenge and give back.”
