British Triathlon has launched its month-long History Starts Now campaign to celebrate Black History Month.
The month was first celebrated in the UK in 1987 and is an annual commemoration of the history, achievements and contributors of Black people in the UK.
In terms of representation in triathlon, only 2.4% of British Triathlon Home Nation members are from an ethnically diverse background and 95% of Black adults in England reportedly do not swim.
As a sport, throughout the month, educational resources will be shared across social media channels before the launch of the History Starts Now documentary which is expected to launch on 20 October.
The documentary is presented by Jacqueline Shepherd and looks at the current state of diversity in the swim, bike and run world. It includes interviews with members of the community, British Triathlon’s CEO Andy Salmon and Triathlon England board member Halima Khan.
