Jumping Fences, the event company behind the San Francisco Marathon, has announced the 2023 half marathon race will return to the Golden Gate Bridge after a six-year hiatus. The iconic bay bridge will now be featured as a key part of the route for the half marathon taking place on Sunday, July 23, 2023.
“We are excited to have the Golden Gate Bridge back as a part of this race, and we’re so thankful to all of the agencies that helped make this happen and the collaborative effort to get our runners back on the bridge,” said Lauri Abrahamsen, Director of Operations at Jumping Fences.
“There is something special about running across this beautiful and historic bridge – it elevates the experience and leaves a lasting memory for each runner.”
Beginning at Crissy Field Sports Basement at 06:30 PT, this year will be the last year runners can directly register to run the first half marathon. Next year, a lottery system will be implemented, with the 2023 second half marathoners getting priority alongside loyal runners who’ve participated in three or more years.
“We’re starting the race in Crissy Field, where the best vistas of the Bay, sweeping downhills, and neighbourhood views will inspire the runners until they finish in Golden Gate Park,” added Abrahamsen.
