Garmin has this week unveiled a range of feature updates for several of its popular smartwatch models. The updates, which are available as part of a free software release, aim to enhance the functionality and performance of the devices, offering users a more immersive and personalized experience.
Among the noteworthy additions to the smartwatches are the introduction of wrist-based running dynamics. Users can now measure important running metrics such as cadence, stride length, and ground contact time directly from their wrist, eliminating the need for additional apps or accessories. Garmin adds that this feature will greatly benefit runners looking to monitor and improve their performance without any hassle.
Another addition is the obstacle racing activity tracking feature. Designed specifically for obstacle course events, this feature allows users to keep track of their run time, the number of obstacles overcome, heart rate, and more. It even enables the recording of split times between running and obstacle sections, providing insights into performance during races.
Garmin has also made improvements to altitude acclimation, providing users with a percentage-based view of their acclimation progress and insights into how their bodies are adapting to changes in elevation. This feature is particularly useful for those engaging in high-altitude activities such as hiking or mountaineering.
Cycling enthusiasts can now access targeted adaptive coaching for cycling. This feature offers users a week’s worth of daily suggested cycling workouts, directly on their compatible smartwatch. The workouts are dynamically adjusted to match the cyclist’s performance and take into account the demands of upcoming events added to their Garmin Connect calendar. This personalized coaching will aim to help cyclists optimize their training and achieve their fitness goals.
The software updates are currently being rolled out to compatible devices. Users can either enable automatic updates on their devices and sync with Garmin Connect, or utilize the Garmin Express application.
