Water quality issues in the Seine have forced the postponement of the men’s individual Olympic triathlon in Paris.
The men’s race was due to start at 08:00 CEST today (Tuesday, July 30). It has now been rescheduled for tomorrow (Wednesday, July 31) following the conclusion of the women’s elite race. Although both races this Wednesday still require water quality to improve upon recent test levels. Friday, August 2, is the contingency back-up date for both the men’s and women’s races.
In a statement World Triathlon noted that… ‘Following the disappointing news that water quality results were not within the permitted levels to hold the swim segment of the men’s individual event as planned on July 30, the men’s race has been postponed and will now take place at 10:45 CEST on Wednesday, July 31.’
World Triathlon added that there has been no impact upon the schedule of the women’s race, with the athletes still set to go out at 08:00 on Wednesday. Both of the medal ceremonies will be held after the conclusion of the men’s event.
