Wahoo Wind Dynamics in new ELEMNT ACE bike computer

Billed as a ‘new category-defining cycling computer’, Wahoo Fitness has launched ELEMNT ACE, which combines the size and usability of a smartphone, with a number of expanded bike computer features.

Claimed to be the largest in category, the ELEMNT ACE screen maximises visibility for navigation and data visualisation. The new bike computer boasts a 30+ hour battery life, and has an integrated wind sensor. It is priced in various territories as: US$599.99, CA$849.99, €599.99, £549.99, AU$999.95 and JP¥9,900.

ELEMNT ACE also features Wahoo Wind Dynamics (WWD) to measure the effects of air resistance in real time and post-ride, and to quantify how wind and drafting are impacting a ride.

With an integrated wind sensor, Wahoo has incorporated a pressure sensor into the ELEMNT ACE via a front-facing opening, enabling cyclists to measure the effects of air resistance in real-time.

The ELEMENT ACE gives riders real-time insight into their ‘AeroBoost’ (when groundspeed is aided by tailwinds or drafting) and ‘AeroDrag’ (when groundspeed is hindered by headwinds). Wahoo notes that these metrics can guide drafting positioning and quantify the sensation of wind felt by riders.

Post-ride, ELEMNT ACE provides Wahoo Wind Dynamics (WWD) to the Wahoo App, which can be used to analyse performance and to help understand wind speed and its impacts on performance.

In addition to the new bike computer’s integrated wind sensor, Wahoo has included other features into the device:

  • Improved User Experience: new touchscreen to complement buttons for ease of use, plus a new modern operating system, and a premium aluminium mount included.
  • Enhanced Navigation: improved mapping features and turn by turn audio navigation.
  • Setup and Sync via the Wahoo App: new cloud-based sync, for a more simple and intuitive user experience where all of a user’s data is stored in Wahoo’s cloud as a single, always backed up source.
  • Enhanced Navigation: Drawing inspiration from motoring navigation systems, Wahoo has introduced voice turn-by-turn directions to the ELEMNT ACE, reducing reliance on the screen, improving safety and helping riders stay on course. Meanwhile, the large screen with high-contrast colour palettes delivers a rich map visual.
  • Screen:ELEMNT ACE is claimed to have the largest screen size of any cycling computer on the market. Equipped with a 3.8in, 3:2 aspect, the ACE is made with a transflective thin-film transistor (TFT) screen. The wider screen aspect ratio allows better peripheral vision on the map. The high-DPI screen also has anti-glare and anti-reflective properties.

For the first time in Wahoo’s history the ELEMNT ACE also takes advantage of touchscreen technology. It has a responsive screen that works even with non-touch-enabled gloves and in wet conditions. Physical buttons are still included for added versatility, giving riders the best of both worlds.

Gareth Joyce, CEO of Wahoo, said “We are thrilled to be launching this next generation of cycling computers and to be setting the standard in what consumers expect.

“The expectations and demands of our customers have changed dramatically since our first bike computer launched back in 2015. Our rider-centric approach to the development of the ELEMNT ACE ensures that it’s a cycling computer that stands up to the expectations of the modern cyclist. This is a huge development and a step forward for the bike computer category.”
